Clarksdale Out as Home for New R&B Hall of Fame

CLARKSDALE, Miss. – Clarksdale will not be home to The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.  Organizer LaMont Robinson posted on his website that the project will be located in Detroit and Memphis Tennessee.

Robinson had announced late last year that the hall of fame would be in the Delta town; but about six months later he announced that he would have a satellite hall of fame in Clarksdale instead.  The city spent $10,000 on an induction ceremony for the hall of fame in June.  Robinson, at that time, expressed frustration that no major donors agreed to underwrite the event.  Local supporters said they were under the impression that Robinson had secured financial underwriters for the project.  The city’s Mayor said it appeared Robinson expected them to do the fundraising and Clarksdale simply could not afford to build the museum and hall of fame for him.
