D.K. Metcalf Declares For NFL Draft

Ole Miss redshirt sophomore wide receiver D.K. Metcalf declared for the NFL draft via Twitter on Friday afternoon, bringing his career in Oxford to an end.

Metcalf caught 67 passes for 1,228 yards and 14 touchdowns in 21 games as a Rebel. Metcalf redshirted his freshman season in 2016 after breaking his foot in the second game of the year against Wofford.  Metcalf caught 26 balls for 569 yards and five touchdowns in seven games for Ole Miss before suffering a season-ending neck injury against Arkansas.

I have enjoyed my time at Ole Miss, gaining brothers and a family, now it’s time for me to pursue my dreams of playing in the NFL,” Metcalf said in the Tweet. “I want to thank the University, my coaches, and teammates, but most importantly my family for helping me through this process.”

At the time of the injury, Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke said despite the neck injury ending Metcalf’s season, he did not believe the injury would affect Metcalf’s long term health.

Metcalf, along with A.J. Brown and Damarkus Lodge, headlined a dynamic receiving corps for Ole Miss and all three are expected to be drafted in April’s NFL Draft.
