Dead in Police Custody: Miss. Bureau of Investigation to Look Into Clarke County Death

STONEWALL, Miss.–The Wednesday night death of Jonathan Sanders is being investigated by the Miss. Bureau of Investigation. Sanders’ attorney told TV station WTOK in Meridian that he was choked to death with a flashlight by a Stonewall police officer.

The MBI hopes their investigation will bring out exactly what happened.

Sanders was exercising his horses about 10:30 Wednesday night, when an incident occurred with a police officer, Stonewall Chief Michael Street told the TV station. He said he could not go into much detail because of the on-going investigation.

Sanders’ family accused Officer Kevin Harrington of choking Sanders with his flashlight, despite Sanders telling him he could not breathe. They said Sanders died and his body was taken to the hospital, and they were not allowed to see him.
