Democrat Numbers in MS Legislature Reduced by Retirement

JACKSON, Miss. – Longtime state Rep. Bennett Malone, D-Carthage, is retiring.

Malone, who has served in the Mississippi Legislature for nearly three dozen years, has missed most of the current session due to illness.  He appeared briefly on the House floor Thursday in a wheelchair, and received a standing ovation from his colleagues. Shortly after his departure, House Speaker Philp Gunn, R-Clinton, announced Malone’s retirement.
