Driver Shot and Killed by Mississippi Police During Traffic Call

GULFPORT, Miss. – A Texas man was shot to death by Gulfport police Thursday night  after they said he went for his gun as a traffic accident was being investigated.

According to the Gulfport police department, its officers approached a car that had crashed; told the driver to get out of it, but Rodney D. Biggs refused.  When officers tried to remove him, they said Biggs, who is from Texas, reached for a firearm that was inside the wrecked car.  At that point, one of the officers shot Biggs, killing him.

The names of the officers were not released.  The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is trying to determine  if their version of the shooting is what took place.
