Ex-USM Worker Investigated for Breaking School’s Security Policy

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – A University of Southern Mississippi employee is now under investigation for violating the trust of fellow co-workers.

USM President Rodney Bennett confirmed Wednesday that the worker was able to see the personal information of other employees on the Hattiesburg campus.  The person has resigned and Bennett said the University Police Department would determine if any criminal charges would be filed.  “What we can say for certain is that the actions of the former employee are not acceptable and will not be tolerated at the University of Southern Mississippi,” Bennett said.

The employees whose information was compromised have been contacted by campus police; and all USM workers have been advised to “be vigilant” about keeping up with their personal account information
