Why Flooding Recovery May Need to Start With Your Tetanus Shot

JACKSON, Miss – The Mississippi State Department of Health is giving out free tetanus vaccinations in places that have been impacted by recent flooding.

Flood waters are saturated with bacteria. If you were to cut or puncture the skin and then come in contact with floodwaters or things damaged by floodwaters, you could open yourself up to infection.

The following county health departments will issue free tetanus vaccinations:


Bolivar                                    Marshall

Claiborne                                 Panola

Clarke                                      Pearl River

Coahoma                                 Perry

Covington                               Pike

Forrest                                     Quitman

Greene                                     Rankin

Hancock                                  Smith

Hinds                                      Sunflower

Jefferson Davis                       Tallahatchie

Jones                                       Tate

Lamar                                      Tunica

Leake                                      Washington

Lincoln                                    Wayne
