Former Coach Arrested for Sexual Battery Turns Himself In; This Time in Louisiana

VIDALIA, La.- 28-year-old Brett Hinson has been booked on a charge of child molestation after he turned himself into Louisiana authorities Tuesday. Hinson was an assistant football and baseball coach at Cathedral High School in Natchez before he resigned June 1st.

The Natchez Police Department arrested Hinson on June 9th for sexual battery, after a female student at Cathedral High School told her parents that she and Hinson had kissed and he touched her inappropriately.

The Natchez Democrat reports that he has now been charged by Vidalia Police in Vidalia, Louisiana, after he turned himself in on Tuesday.

Vidalia Assistant Police Chief Bruce Wiley said that it was the same victim and under the same circumstances, it just happened in their jurisdiction this time.

So Hinson now faces charges in two different states.

In Mississippi, he’s looking at up to 30 years in prison, and as much as $10,000 in fines. In Louisiana, it could only be ten years and a $5,000 fine, but it could be increased to 20 years and $10,000 in fines when the offender “has control or supervision over the minor.”
