Governor Bryant sets dates for special election

Gov. Phil Bryant has set Nov. 7 as the date for the special election for House District 38. The seat was recently vacated when former Rep. Tyrone Ellis retired.

The qualifying deadline is Sept 18. If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast on Nov. 7, a runoff will be held on Nov. 28. District 38 covers parts of Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties.

The special election date for House District 54 is also Nov. 7. The seat was recently vacated when former Rep. Alex Monsour was sworn in as South Ward alderman in Vicksburg.

The qualifying deadline is Sept. 18. If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast on Nov. 7, a runoff will be held on Nov. 28. District 54 covers parts of Issaquena, Warren and Yazoo counties.
