A cookout turned deadly when a man was shot by his car Tuesday night.

Kellum Fairley, Lucedale Police Chief said an officer heard what sounded like a gunshot and went to investigate.

“He stopped to investigate and when he did stop to investigate he went to question a few individuals that were around,” said Kellum Fairley, Lucedale Police Chief. “He noticed a white SUV running, it looked like it had blood dripping off of it and so he looked and saw a black male who was later identified as Demetry Pate.” Fairley continued.

“He was standing outside of the vehicle on the passenger side of his SUV when we found him,” said Fairley.

The officer at the scene called the paramedics and Demetry Pate was pronounced dead on sight.

Investigators are continuing to look for Demietrius Spivery in connection with the shooting.
