On August 31st, a dead body wrapped in a tarp was discovered by a couple at their recently purchased Jackson home on Greenwood Ave.

Due to the decomposition of the body, officials could not identify the body when the Jackson Police Department arrived on the scene. At the time of the discovery, they couldn’t confirm the race, age, or even the gender of the body. An autopsy was then able to confirm that the unidentified white man in his mid-40s died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

After months of investigating and confirming with medical records, JPD investigators have been able to identify the body as Steven Austin Black, who had been reported missing in the Jackson area on May 22, 2015, at the age of 44.

Robert Paige, the previous occupant of the home, was seen as a person of interest in the case, but he was found dead after his vehicle was submerged in a Hinds County lake on September 1st of this year.

According to a release sent out by the JPD, they will not be seeking further suspect information at this time.
