Mississippi State Gets Much Needed Sweep With 8-4 Sunday Win Over Quinnipiac

Bulldogs get the sweep heading into a challenging week

Mississippi State knew after a tough week that getting back on the winning track by any means necessary was the goal this weekend against Quinnipiac. Despite some struggles at the plate and in the field the past three days, the Bulldogs got what they wanted, closing out the Bobcats with an 8-4 Sunday victory. Senior reliever David Dunlavey pitched three perfect innings in relieft to get the win, while State got key hits from Jordan Westburg, Josh Hatcher and Kamren James to extend their record to 10-4 on the year.

GO WEST YOUNG MAN

After a Logan Tanner home run and Rowdey Jordan RBI single gave MSU the lead back in the bottom of the fourth, it was Jordan Westburg who gave the Bulldogs some much needed cushion. Westburg crushed a ball that hit the top of the fence in left center for a two RBI double, pushing State’s advantage to 6-3. Westburg would add another RBI in the eighth when his single brought in Tanner Leggett to set the game’s final margin. The top of State’s order is rounding into form, with Jordan, Westburg and Foscue all above .300 and Josh Hatcher riding a big weekend to be at .283.

WHAT’S NEXT?

One of the most difficult weeks in Mississippi State history kicks off Tuesday, as the Bulldogs head to Biloxi for a two game set with fellow College World Series participant and fifth ranked Texas Tech before returning home to open SEC play with another Omaha alum in 13th ranked Arkansas. First pitch is set for 6 PM at MGM Park.
