Mississippi State loses double overtime fight to BYU 28-21

PROVO, Utah – The Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-4) fell to BYU (4-3) 28-21 in double overtime Friday night in Utah. The game was close throughout, but overall BYU took the win in overtime. 
Sophomore quarterback Nick Fitzgerald completed 17-of-36 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and also rushed for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore running back Aeris Williams led the Bulldogs with 86 yards rushing on 21 carries. Fred Ross had a team-high five receptions for 69 yards, while Keith Mixon had four catches for the same yardage and State’s first touchdown of the night.

Defensively, freshman inside linebacker Leo Lewis had a career high 12 tackles to lead MSU, including six solo, while State’s defense as a whole racked up six tackles for loss. Richie Brown added 10 tackles, nine solo, and a pass breakup.

State stays on the road next weekend, traveling to take on Kentucky (3-3) in Lexington, Ky. That game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. CT) and will be televised by the SEC Network.
