Mississippi State Sweeps Georgia With a 6-5 Sunday Win

A weekend ago, it was Mississippi State on the wrong side of a sweep, as they dropped three straight on the road to Arkansas. This week, back in the friendly confines of Dudy Noble Field, the Bulldogs were able to break out the brooms against Georgia, finishing off the series with a 6-5 win over the Bulldogs from the east. State got a couple of insurance runs in the eighth, and they proved to be the difference, as Georgia put together a ninth inning rally to cut a 6-1 deficit to one run before Colby White was able to slam the door. MSU improves to 36-9, 13-8 in the SEC.

PEYTON’S PLACE

Peyton Plumlee had already given Mississippi State a quality start earlier this week when he pitched against Ole Miss. Even on short rest, Plumlee was fantastic, throwing 6.1 innings of one hit shutout baseball. Plumlee got into a bit of first inning trouble, but cruised from there before being relieved. A common thread this season has been if Mississippi State can get a third pitcher to complement Ethan Small and JT Ginn. Plumlee has shown he can be that guy most times out.

WHAT’S NEXT?

No midweek action for the Bulldogs, who will head west to College Station for a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series with Texas A&M. The Aggies are coming off being swept themselves, dropping three in Oxford to Ole Miss. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 6 PM. We’ll have plenty to talk about regarding Bulldog baseball on the Thunder & Lightning Podcast and SportsTalk Mississippi this week.
