You would think being a top 10 total defense and holding opponent’s to less than two touchdowns per game would be enough to satisfy most folks, but Mississippi State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop is still looking for more. He explained that thinking Wednesday night to the local media, that there is a difference between playing well and playing winning football.
Mississippi State’s junior defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons spoke about his group, and how high expectations have set the standard for him and his teammates. He expects a victory if his team just follows the gameplan and executes at a high level.
I don’t know how much more you can realistically expect from this Bulldog defense, as they have been keeping this team afloat through this rough stretch. Obviously the Bulldogs would like to create more turnovers, but that is something that is difficult to plan for, and as Coach Shoop said, interceptions usually come from teams that are leading. If the Bulldogs can start taking the ball away more often, that might provide the struggling offense with the opportunities it needs for some easy scores. But either way, the Bulldog defense is doing its part, it just needs the other side of the ball to do its.
