Natchez Police Officer Indicted in Murder Case

NATCHEZ, Miss.–A Natchez Police Department officer has been indicted as an accessory to second-degree murder in a Louisiana case.

Both Vince Bates and his son Vincent Dotson were indicted by a grand jury last week.

Dotson is facing second-degree murder charges and police say he shot Derec Dobbins in Vidalia, LA. on August 28.

Natchez police chief Danny White tells the Natchez Democrat that Bates is now on administrative leave without pay.

Bates is accused of interfering with police officers that were trying to arrest his son only a couple of hours after the murder.

Bates has bonded out of jail and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
