The excitement surrounding the NCAA Tournament provided a significant boost to sports betting revenue in the month of March.

Figures released by the Mississippi Gaming Commission show that bettors in Mississippi placed nearly $25 million worth of bets on basketball alone in March, netting $3.5 million in taxable revenue for the state.

In all, sports betting brought in just under $5 million in taxable revenue for the month of March, which was a $2 million increase from February.

On the first day of the tournament, executive director of the gaming commission Allen Godfrey said that operators were telling them that foot traffic in the casinos drastically increased.
