Officer Suspended Following Arrest of Mississippi Political Candidate

GREENWOOD, Miss. – A Greenwood police officer has been suspended pending an internal investigation into the arrest of Lieutenant Governor Candidate Jelani Barr.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams confirmed that the police department is investigating the conduct of Officer Randy Powell and said that he will be given a hearing.  Barr, who is also a community activist, was arrested as he recorded cell phone video of a traffic stop April 7.  He was charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer.

McAdams said Powell was suspended immediately after Barr filed a complaint.
