OK to have Guns at School, If You Have an Enhanced Carry Permit

JACKSON, Miss. – You can carry a concealed gun in some areas of school campuses in Mississippi, if you have an enhanced carry permit.

Attorney General Jim Hood issued a nonbinding legal opinion this week that says it’s ok to have weapons in a gym or at a football game.  A school “may not bar enhanced permit holders with concealed pistols and revolvers from entry into a school facility or school athletic event to which the general public is otherwise normally permitted,” he wrote.

But his opinion is that guns are still not allowed at events like a parent teacher conference.

Hood issued his opinion after his office was contacted by Monroe County School Superintendent Scott Cantrell.
