Practice Report: Mississippi State Begins Prep for the Season Finale Against Iowa

Mississippi State began its preparations for New Year’s Day and the Outback Bowl this week, as the Bulldogs will travel to Tampa to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead spoke to the media on Saturday, saying that starting with Monday’s practices, the Bulldogs will move away from developmental drills and into full speed ahead for bowl game prep.

We also spoke to Coach Tony Hughes, his first meeting with the media since his return to Starkville. Hughes made it clear that Mississippi and Mississippi State are home to him, and that was the biggest reason he made the decision to come back.

Mississippi State defensive end and team captain Gerri Green spoke about one last game with his Bulldog teammates. He knows the contest against Iowa will be a hard-hitting football game, one he’s ready to play in.

Senior quarterback Nick Fitzgerald took the time to reminisce on his time at Mississippi State, which began with him joining the team in Decemeber of 2013 when the Bulldogs were preparing to take on Rice in the Liberty Bowl. Fitzgerald said sometimes it feels like yesterday, and sometimes it feels like it was the five years its been.

MSU will have coaches and players available all week, and of course, Coach Moorhead will speak to us again on Wednesday for National Signing Day.
