Relive the Story of Elvis through “Saving the King” Book; Talk of Filming Movie in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss.- It’s been thirty-seven years since the death of Elvis Presley, but the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s groundbreaking dance moves, slicked back hair and iconic lip curl are not forgotten.

For many fans, they had a difficult time coping with the loss of Elvis. Some may even say he’s still alive, but for George and Christine Gomez they wanted closure.

“When he died at 42-years-old millions of fans, I was one of them, were in complete shock.” George Gomez said, “I remember that Tuesday night like it was yesterday; rainy, hot, August night in Nashville. So from then on I was thinking of this story. How can I put closure to the King’s life?”

So after years of talking about it, George and his wife Christine finally wrote a book about what might have been, called “Saving the King”.

Gomez said the book is, “What if God gave Elvis a second chance at life to defeat the demons of his addiction? I know he could have done it if he had somebody that would say no.”

“It’s a fictional tale, it’s really a historical tale because I put a lot of truth in his life,” said Gomez.

Tupelo native, Elvis, is loved by many in Mississippi and across the world. Now, with “Saving the King” fans will get to read another ending to his story. Not only will they get to read the book, but it’s currently in the process of being turned into a movie.

“We’re going to start filming hopefully next year,” Gomez said.

The movie will be filmed in parts of Tennessee, Georgia, New Orleans and even some places in Mississippi.

Gomez said they’re doing casting right now and that there’s two or three big actors interested in playing these roles, but the producer said no names can be released yet.

“If you lived in the South like I did, listening to Elvis was like eating, it was in your veins.” Gomez said, “It’s a great story of redemption, a story of paying it forward; I just wanted to put closure to this great man’s life.”

Five percent of all proceeds from the book will be donated to the Elvis Presley Foundation that Lisa Marie Presley started in 2007.
