Richard McCarthy Chosen to be Interim MDOC Commissioner

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) Deputy Commissioner Richard McCarty has been chosen by Governor Phil Bryant to serve as the interim Commissioner for MDOC.

Former Corrections Commissioners Christopher Epps resigned earlier Wednesday. He is currently the target of a federal investigation.

Also, Rankin County School Board President Ceil McCrory abruptly resigned Wednesday. He owns Corrections Communications Incorporated which has contracts with MDOC. No word on if McCrory is involved.
