Shallow Graves Found in Lauderdale County

BAILEY, Miss.–Deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department went to serve a search warrant Thursday but found more than they were bargaining for in the Bailey community.

Evidently two shallow graves were discovered on Espey Road according to WTOK and officials tell them that two skeletal remains were uncovered but haven’t been identified.

The home belongs to Algene Grant who is a registered sex offender but has failed to register since June of this year, and hence the police knocking at his door.

Sheriff Billy Sollie tells WTOK that one of the remains could actually be Grant along with a companion, Aketa Sims Washington, but no reason is given for that thought.

So far one person is in custody related to the investigation.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is helping to look into possible scenarios.
