UPDATE: Fatal Shooting in Lumberton, 12-Year-Old Girl Indentified

LUMBERTON, Miss.–The shooting Thursday night of a 12-year-old girl in Lumberton had the family in shock and police looking for answers. The girl, indentified at Jayla Sandifer, died at the house around 9pm.

Jayla’s body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy, and police did not discuss whether it was an accident.

Police Chief Elsie Cowart told WDAM that no one was on the run. The TV station reported that an eyewitness said that Jayla’s older brother may have been questioned by police, but officers did not confirm that.

Cowart, who knew the victim, said officers were asking everyone in the home questions.

She said the investigation was on-going and they may be able to talk more about it once they get all the facts.
