The Killing of a Step Son: Life Sentence for Amanda Raines, Husband Sentencing is Later

HERNANDO, Miss.–A life sentence was handed down Wednesday for Amanda Raines, who pleaded guilty in January to killing her 11-year-old step-son Tyler Raines in Feb. 2014. Her husband, Tommy, will be sentenced at a later date, and could also serve life for second degree murder.

Prosecutors said Tyler was beaten, tortured and starved and was only 56 lbs. when he died. He was kept in a bathroom and restrained with zip ties.

The couple pleaded guilty in January, but terms were worked out in May, according to court records.
