Three dead after Wednesday night police chase

JONES COUNTY, Miss.- Three people were pronounced dead on the scene after a police chase in Jones County ended in a crash.

On Wednesday around 2 a.m. OR pm? a Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy was doing a patrol through Eastview Road when a car, headed his direction, was swerving and missing a headlight.

The deputy moved out of the way to avoid a collision. He then attempted to pull the car over to make a traffic stop, however, the driver did not stop and a nearly 17 mile chase ensued.

The deputy called in other patrol units for assistance when the driver failed to pull over.

On Highway 15 South the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into a wooded area and crashed.

Inside the vehicle were Kayla Lovett, 20 of Laurel, Josh Lovett, 33 of Laurel, and Rustin Sims, 23 of Ovett. They were all pronounced dead on the scene by the Jones County Coroner’s Office.

Damage to the vehicle was so severe that it took rescuers several hours to get the victims out.

An investigation is being conducted by MHP and JCSD.
