Tropical Weather Could Ruin Weekend Plans

PEARL, Miss. – This warning if you are headed to the Mississippi Coast this weekend: be aware of the possibility of tropical weather moving in.

The National Hurricane Center is watching a tropical system that’s moving close to the Yucatan Peninsula and is forecasted to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico.  And with events like “Cruzin the Coast” and other festivals planned for this weekend, emergency managers are concerned.

“We know there will be a lot of out-of-towners headed to the coast this weekend that may not be experienced with tropical weather preparedness.” said MEMA Director Robert Latham in a statement released to News Mississippi. “We want to make sure everyone takes proper precautions before they set up any type of equipment like tents and campers. It doesn’t take much wind to lift those type things.”

A Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to fly into that tropical system this afternoon to provide detailed information about development.
