Until We Meet Again…

Sometimes in life we forget to slow down and take a minute to count our blessings. My busy schedule doesn’t really lend itself to too much time for introspection, but I try to work it in when I can. Over the past few days, I’ve been struck by the realization that my time on Head to Head has come to an end, and frankly it hit me like a ton of bricks. I hadn’t slowed down long enough to let that sink in until my time was almost up, and that might be the only regret I have from my more than 5 years working with Matt and Richard.

If you had told me 10 years ago that I would someday be able to discuss sports(especially soccer) and play music for a living, I’d have suggested that you get your head examined, and it wasn’t until only a few hours ago that I fully realized how fortunate I truly am. It’s not that I’ve ever taken my blessings for granted; I just never counted them before now, and I am stunned by the sheer number of them.

I’ve gotten the chance to talk to heroes from my youth, like Nolan Ryan. I stood on the sideline of the Egg Bowl in 2015 and watched Dak Prescott throw a touchdown pass to Malik Dear not 10 feet from where I stood. I’ve sat in the Grove on a fall Saturday and watched the crowd grow from about 100 people to 100,000. I’ve gotten chills as I sang our National Anthem with a choir 50,000 voices strong, and I’ve choked back tears to speak truth to tragedy. I’ve eaten sushi made from a MS State hat. I’ve been threatened, yelled at, and cursed by people that I will never meet, but I’ve also seen how a child’s smile can be brightened by something as small as a minute of your time. I’ve seen how something as silly as shaving off a beard can help provide a better life for those less fortunate, and I’ve been blessed beyond measure to call Supertalk my home.

I have grown more personally and professionally in the last 5 years than I ever thought possible, and I’ve had the privilege of sharing the good times and the bad with two guys that I truly consider my friends. I cannot begin to thank Matt and Richard for the chance they gave me to turn my eclectic set of skills into a dream job, and I will never be able to repay the debt of gratitude that I owe them.

I also owe a great deal to you, the listener. Without you, none of us would be here, but I especially want to thank everyone that has ever stopped me in the grocery store or at a soccer match to say hello, and I want to thank anyone that has called me up, texted me, or tweet at me just to give me your input. You played a big part in where I am today, and for that I am grateful.

Now I hand over the reins of Head to Head to Michael Borkey, and I have full confidence that his passion and drive will help guide Head to Head into a bright new future. You will still be able to find me on the JT Show, and I’ll be starting a new endeavor with Rebecca Turner called “Good Things”, but whenever Borkey needs a break, I’ll be sure to stop by and sit in the big chair.

This isn’t really “Good Bye”.

It’s more like “Until we meet again”.

So until we meet again, I wish you all the best.
