Vicksburg’s Scariest Places; The Corners’ Ghost Tales

VICKSBURG, Miss.- The Corners, a true mansion of The Old South, and along with mansions of true history comes stories of ghost tales.

News Mississippi’s Chelsea Corona and Courtney Carter decided to join in on the ghost fun and hear the tales from the owner of the house for themselves.

The house has a history of tragedy. The Corners Mansion, built in 1873 by John Alexander Klein, was given as a wedding gift to his daughter Susan and her new husband, Isaac Bonham.

Susan lost one of her children at five years old of diphtheria. Her husband died a year later when he went to the bar with one of his buddies. His friend got into it with a reporter and her husband jumped in the way to stop his friend from shooting the reporter, that’s when his friend accidentally shot him and killed him instead. The next year, she lost her second son from typhoid fever at nine years old. This all happened to Susan Klein by the age of 31. She was 29 when she lost one child, 30 when she lost her husband and 31 when she lost her other child. She passed away in 1935 at 82 years old.

The Corners Births

The home is now owned by Macy Whitney and her husband. They have turned the place into a bed and breakfast. While Whitney claims she’s never seen a ghost, some of her visitors have said differently.
