19-Year-Old Convicted of Raping Teen Girl

JACKSON, Miss.- A 19-year-old Jackson man has been convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint, said Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith.

Dequane Lomax was convicted Friday. DNA evidence found on the man and on the 16 inch knife used helped the court make their decision. The attack occurred Jan. 20, 2013.

“Jurors heard testimony that Lomax visited the girl at her home while her mother was at work. On the last day of testimony, Lomax took the stand and denied the visit,” Smith told WAPT. “Lomax said the girl came to his house for consensual sex on the day of the alleged attack and she stole the knife out of his house, which Lomax said explained the partial DNA match on the handle of the knife.”

Smith said. “Her testimony, the forensic evidence, and the defendant’s improbable alibi no doubt determined the outcome of this trial.”

Lomax has another forcible rape charge pending in Hinds County.
