JACKSON, Miss. – A new report is raising questions about how the state pays for certain preschool classes.
The watchdog group Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER) finds that the Mississippi Department of Education should set minimum benchmarks, that have to be met, before giving money to providers.
They’re study also revealed that students attending the program performed worse on the kindergarten readiness test, then their counterparts in similar programs.
The Mississippi Department of Education argues that it’s too soon to establish benchmarks and dismisses the studies process in coming up with it’s conclusions.
