600,000 Mississippians to Be Affected by SNAP Cuts

JACKSON, Miss. — Over 600,000 Mississippi may not be getting the same food assistance benefits they are used to getting after a temporary stimulus package expires October 31. More than 47 million people nation wide in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be affected by that cut according to a report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

For a family of three, the cut will be $29 less that what they are used to getting each month from SNAP. Not only will some families be seeing less, but cuts to the program could also hurt rural Mississippi businesses since they count on the SNAP for about 25 percent business.
