A Disappointing Start to Shrimp Season

JACKSON, Miss. – Shrimp harvesters are staying ashore as low prices and small shrimp bog down the start of shrimp season.

According to John Williams with Southern Shrimp Alliance, imported shrimp from Malaysia is one of the biggest factors bringing down the price of shrimp.

Some shrimp harvesters are blaming the start of shrimp season, saying it started too early and the shrimp didn’t have enough time to grow and mature.

Williams added that environmental factors play more of a role in the shrimps size, than just the start of shrimp season.
