A New Congressman for Mississippi: Trent Kelly Wins, As Poll Predicted

SALTILLO, Miss.–Mississippi has a new congressman and now Trent Kelly will have to be replaced as the district attorney for his area. Kelly, of Saltillo, will go to Washington to fill the spot left vacant when Alan Nunnelee passed away in February.

Kelly’s win was very close to the prediction of a poll last week. He got 70 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Walter Zinn, got 30 percent.

Though the race was non-partisan, Kelly is a Republican and Zinn is a Democrat.

The only counties Kelly did not take were Clay and Marshall.

Gov. Bryant is responsible for appointing someone to be district attorney in Kelly’s place for the First Judicial Dist.

The 1st Congressional District includes most of the northeast quarter of Mississippi.
