A Plunge with Police in Pursuit; Swimmer Caught

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. — A Biloxi man, wanted for armed robbery and assault, jumped into a river Wednesday to keep from being arrested.

Ocean Springs Police got a call from a bridge worker around 10 a.m. who expressed concern for a white male walking along the CSX train bridge across from the Biloxi Bay.  When officers arrived and approached Lesley Cole, they said he lowered himself onto a bridge support and jumped into the water.

A Mississippi Department of Marine Resources team was called and were able to pull Cole from the water unharmed.  Cole, who has two warrants for his arrest through the Jackson County Sheriff’s office, admitted jumping into the water to avoid being captured. He is being held at the Ocean Spring Municipal Jail.
