Alcorn County Accident Leaves One Dead

CORINTH, Miss.- A traffic accident in Alcorn county Friday morning results in the death of a Booneville woman. 63-year-old Peggy Phillips veered into the wrong lane while driving on Highway 2 near the Tippah County line at around 7:30 a.m., colliding with 41-year-old Corinth resident, Arlene Settlem in her SUV.

Phillips was transported to the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth, along with her passenger, 45-year-old Guntown resident Julie Smith. Phillips later died during treatment and Smith remains in stable condition.

While the accident remains under investigation, neither woman was wearing a seatbelt.
