On Saturday morning, two officers with the Brookhaven Police Department lost their lives during a shootout with a suspect. Now, funeral arrangements have been set.

Patrolman James White and Corporal Zach Moak responded to a ‘shots fired’ call on North 6th Street where they exchanged gunfire with a suspect who has now been identified as 25-year-old Marquis Aaron Flowers.

Both White and Moak were killed in the line of duty and will be remembered as heroes as they put their lives on the line to protect their community.

According to two posts on the Brookhaven Police Department’s Facebook page, arrangements for both officers have been set.

Following the shooting, Chief Kenneth Collins stated that the bravery of White, Moak and all other law enforcement offices is not taken lightly.

“They are heroes, and my heart goes out to all of their family. You never know when it’s your last day, and I just want to thank all of the men and women in law enforcement for their bravery and their service,” Collins said.

Flowers was shot and wounded during the exchange of gunfire and was taken to the hospital.
