Attorney says Sick Client, who Cut Up Dancer’s Body, Deserves New Trial

The man convicted for the death and dismemberment of a Louisiana dancer, whose body parts were found on a Mississippi beach, wants a courtroom do over .

In a motion, filed just days before Speaks is scheduled to get life in prison for the 2012 death of Jaren Lockhart, his attorney claimed Speaks must get another trial because of his history of mental illness.   Public Defender John Benz also argued that the Judge should have asked Speaks about possible mental illness when Speaks attempted to represent himself during the first day of trial.  He said  Speaks has tried to kill himself and has been in treatment for mental illness.

Speaks’ ex-girlfriend, Margaret Sanchez, was also arrested in the case.  She is still waiting for her1 trial.
