Authorities Search for Mother after Child Hospitalized

SAUCIER, Miss. – The search is on for a mother wanted for felony child abuse child abuse in Harrison County.

Melissa Findlay, 25, has been avoiding police ever since she got word they were looking for her. According to Major Ron Pullen, authorities believe she may be in the New Orleans area. So far police have arrested her boyfriend Joseph Adkins on the same charge. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
The investigation began when emergency crews were called to a Saucier home on April 17. Atkins told deputies Findlay’s two-year-old son had fallen from a trampoline and hit his head. The child was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical center.

“Doctors assessed the child and determined the child had injuries that were not consistent with jumping off a trampoline, being that the child had been abused,” said Pullen.

The child was in intensive care but is now in stable condition. Since, the Department of Human Services has taken custody of the child.

If you have information that could aid in the search for Findlay call the sheriff’s office at 228-865-7060 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
