Basketballs Loaded with Contraband Tossed Over Into Prison Yard

HOLMES COUNTY, MS — It’s amazing the things you can stuff into a basketball.  For example, all the illegal stuff hidden inside five basketballs found Thursday at the Holmes County jail.

“Some had marijuana; some had tobacco; some had telephone chargers; some had the actually cellular phones themselves in it,” said Holmes County Sheriff Willie March.  “I guess they used the basketballs hoping that the deputy that found them inside the area where the inmates played basketball wouldn’t think anything about it- just some basketballs left for the inmates.”

March said the plan may have worked, but: “they had a duffle bag that had tobacco and other items in it.  They tried to throw it across and but it went into the dog run.”

So far no one has been arrested.
