BB King Boulevard Named in Memphis, Second Mississippian to Be Honored That Way

MEMPHIS, Tenn.–Memphis is the city where Mississippi-born BB King got his name, the “Beale St. Blues Boy”. Wednesday he became the second Mississippian to have a boulevard in Memphis named for him. The first was Elvis.

The honor came on what would have been King’s 90th birthday. He died in May after a series of health setbacks.

“We all know about his history, singing and guitars, born into a sharecropper’s family on Sept. 16, 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi,” said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton at the ceremony.

The street runs from Jackson Ave. to Crump Blvd., if you want to check your map, and the most well known intersection is with Beale St.
