Cities across the country are preparing for New Year’s Eve festivities. While the most famous celebration is the ball drop in New York’s Times Square, Mississippi has a drop of its own.

The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi is hosting their New Year’s Eve Oyster Ball Drop 2018 on Sunday night. SuperTalk Mississippi’s Kipp Gregory says it’s a unique way to ring in the New Year.

“Well in New Orleans you’ve got the Fleur-de-Lis drop, you’ve got the Moonpie in Mobile, the Pelican in Pensacola and somewhere in Brasstown, NC they drop a possum, so we have to be unique. Biloxi is known for seafood, so at the museum, we drop an oyster ball at midnight.”

The event will also feature live music from the Black Water Brass band, fireworks, heavy hors-d’oeuvres, a full bar and as you leave, you’re sent off with beignets and coffee to-go.

Tickets to the event are $90 per couple & $50 for a single ticket. Only 400 tickets total will be sold, and tickets can be purchased on the museum’s website.
