A Break-in, a Stabbing, Two Dead, and Now, Finally, a Trial

ITTAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss.–It looks like Jake Carpenter may finally be going to trial. Prosecutors say he killed a couple in Ittawamba County back in 2011 and after several tries to get him into court, Jan. 27 may actually be the day.

WTVA reports a judge set the new trial date after several continuances, where the defense team asked for more time to prepare.

What police say he did: Carpenter is accused of breaking into Fred and Mildred House’s home while they weren’t there. They got home during the burglary, came in and surprised him. That’s when cops say he stabbed and killed both of them.

He took off for Russellville, Ala., where he was tracked down and arrested.
