Broken water line means indefinite water outage in South Mississippi

TeleSouth Communications inc.

Hattiesburg officials reported that a 20-inch water line was punctured Tuesday morning, causing severe outages.

The City of Hattiesburg Water and Sewer Department have been tasked with repairing the break. The puncture happened when railroad contractors were attempting to connect a communications line between the cities of Gulfport and Jackson.

The line is located on the corner of East 7th and J.D. Randolph Street. So far, portions of East 7th are already closed off to drivers.

This break will cause a widespread outage to areas between New Orleans and Providence Streets. There is no estimation on how long the outage could last.

The Water and Sewer Department issued a news release that crews had  begun work to restore water to the impacted areas.

A boil water notice has been issued.
