Canton School District receives multiple threats

According to a post from the Canton Public School District on Facebook, social media threats were made against Canton High School and Porter Middle School earlier today. The Instgram post warned of a potential school shooting at both locations, and law enforcement was notified. The statement says that the schools are secure and that security measures have been enhanced.

ALL STUDENTS & STAFF ARE SAFE

CPSD received a social media message that someone was threatening a school shooting at CHS and Porter Middle school today. We have contacted all local law enforcement and all of our buildings are secure. Extra precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of all students and additional officers will be present at Canton High School and Porter Middle while this situation remains under investigation.Thanks to all who notified us about this so that we could respond rapidly to this issue.

Cheif Otha Brown with the Canton Police Department says that the school was placed on lockdown as they continue to patrol the area and conduct their search.

The Canton PD is now working to indentify the origin of the threat, and this story will be updated as we recieve new information.
