Charity Gets Gift Cards Bought During Southaven Spending Scandal

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — Restaurant gift cards that were purchased with taxpayer money under former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis are now going to the charity, Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. That decision was made Tuesday by current Mayor Darren Musselwhite and unanimously approved by Southaven aldermen.

Musselwhite told WMCTV, “We just felt like it was healthier for our city if we just tied up lose ends and get rid of the cards.”

State auditors accused Davis of spending thousands of dollars and running up huge bar bills at the Mesquite Chop House.

The charity plans on holding a silent auction for the cards for cash.
