Child Kidnapped by Father at Pascagoula Restaurant, Both Found in Alabama

PASCAGOULA, Miss.–You’ve heard heart wrenching stories about parents who lose custody of their children going up against the law to get them back. That appears to be what happened Wednesday night in Pascagoula, and now that dad is in jail.

The six-year-old kid and the grandmother were eating dinner at Raising Cane’s. The grandmother told police that she turned her back and when she looked again the child’s father had grabbed the kid and took off in the direction of Alabama.

WLOX reported the child’s father is Maurice Rentz Johnson, 33, from Clinton, Maryland. He did not have legal custody of the child.

It was about two and a half hours later that police caught up with him on I-65 in Butler County, Ala.

Johnson was still in Alabama Thursday and was expected to be brought back to Mississippi to face kidnapping charges.
