Children Injured as SUV Hits McDonald’s Play Land

BYRAM, Miss.–Several people, including kids who were playing on the McDonald’s Play Land, were hurt when a Chevy Avalanche slammed into the playground Thursday evening in Byram, which is just south of Jackson on I-55.

The incident happened just about dusk when the driver of the Avalanche suffered what may have been a seizure and hit a vehicle at the red light near the Micky D’s on Siwell Rd. The car that was hit was forced into the parking lot, according to witnesses with whom News Mississippi spoke. Three people, including at least one child were injured in that vehicle.

The Avalanche then kept going until it crashed into the side of the restaurant, splashing glass inside where at least one little girl was on the playground equipment.

Witnesses told News Mississippi that child had to be taken to the hospital, but her injuries were not life threatening and mainly involved a finger injury.

The manager of the restaurant was on scene surveying the damage Thursday night, which included extensive damage to the play area. He told News Mississippi he could not comment due to corporate policy and asked our crew to leave the premises to conduct any interviews or take pictures.
