WARREN COUNTY, Miss. — A Warren County Grand Jury has returned a three-count indictment on federal embezzlement charges against Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley Palmertree.
State Auditor Stacy Pickering Said Palmertree was arrested and processed Thursday.
Pickering’s office, in March 2013, demanded Palmertree give back more than $661,000. Part of that amount is just over $402,000 unlawfully paid to Palmertree in violation of a circuit clerk’s fee cap. The payback demand also included over $163,000 auditors say Palmertree paid to relatives.
A previous indictment against Palmertree from August of last year was dismissed due to a processing technicality
