Michael Guest, the District Attorney for Madison and Rankin Counties, held an announcement event in Brandon for his campaign for the U.S. Congress in Mississippi’s Third Congressional District.

The official announcement came after current U.S. Congressman Gregg Harper announced that he would not seek re-election.

“I believe that I have what it takes,” said District Attorney Michael Guest.

Guest who has been District Attorney since 2008 says he wants only the best for Mississippi.

“For the last 22 years, I have fought to protect the people of Mississippi by dedicating my life to help keep our communities safe, and to see that they remain great places to live, worship and raise a family,” said Guest. “As District Attorney for the people of Madison and Rankin Counties, I have worked with our men and women of law enforcement and our judicial officials to protect our citizens from those who would prey upon others. I have worked to rid our streets of those who sell drugs to our children, and to see that violent offenders are held responsible for their actions.”

Since 2008, as District Attorney, Michael Guest and his office prosecuted 20,000 criminals, supported law enforcement agencies by providing them with more than $20 million dollars in money recovered from drug dealers, and successfully recovering more than $3.5 million dollars in the bad check unit to help local merchants and businesses.

“I’m asking for everyone’s vote because we need a strong, conservative Congressman to represent Mississippi who has a proven record of fighting for what’s right,” Guest said. “Just like I’ve fought for you by prosecuting criminals in the courtroom and putting them in jail, I’m asking you to send me to Congress to fight for you and our state.”

Guest said that he has been thinking about running for Congress for several years.

Prior to becoming District Attorney, Guest served 12 years as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting hundreds of cases and obtaining guilty verdicts against criminals charged with murder, manslaughter, armed robbery, sexual battery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, house burglary, and drug sales.

“I pledge to you that if you send me to Congress, I will work every day to represent our interests and to fight against those who would erode our freedoms,” Guest said. “I will fight to see that we remain the nation that Ronald Reagan referred to as a shining city on a hill and that we will forever be one nation under God.”

Guest added that if elected he would tackle infrastructure, the opioid epidemic and supporting the military.

Michael Guest has worked closely with the law enforcement community training state and local law enforcement officers. He served as an instructor for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, the Mississippi State Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

“There are going to be several other good candidates to get in this race, we knew that going in, and so we are going to run on our record, we are going to run on our accomplishment, and what we have done,” Guest said.
